Port Chalmers School has been providing quality education for Year 1 to Year 8 children in the Port Chalmers area for over 154 years.

Features of our school are a friendly atmosphere where learning is a priority and extensive grounds with a large grassed playing area.  We are very well resourced and spend a higher than usual proportion of our money on curriculum and the professional learning of our staff.  We make use of such modern technologies as computers, digital cameras, microphones while still maintaining a focus on the importance of literacy and numeracy.

Port Chalmers School has a history of preparing children well for their futures in the school system and beyond.  Our learning philosophy “Port Kids Alive (Active, Learners, Imaginative, Visual, Enthusiastic) where learners become leaders” has grown from our school community and their commitment to the students of Port Chalmers.

Sporting and cultural activities are an important part of children’s education and we have classroom and sports programmes to develop and extend skills in our children.  The Arts are a feature of our school.  We have an annual Artist in Residence programme and all students from Year 4 to Year 8 learn to play the marimbas.

A strength of our school is the involvement of parents and the community in the classroom programmes as well as activities outside the school.  The individual skills and abilities of each child are valued and we aim for each to achieve to the best of their ability and potential.

I look forward to getting to know you as your child progresses through Port Chalmers School.  I am very proud to be the Principal of this very exciting learning community.  The staff and I welcome the opportunity at any time, to discuss with you matters regarding your child’s education and welfare.

Yours sincerely,

Vicki Nicolson
