From our Principal

Kia ora,

Port Chalmers School prides itself on having a welcoming and friendly atmosphere and a wonderful culture. Learning is a priority and is led by our dedicated and professional staff who care about the children they have the privilege of educating and nurturing.

The school is nestled on large, peaceful, and tree-filled grounds on the shores of the beautiful Otago Harbour with everyone making the most of our large grassed playing area.

We pride ourselves on being inclusive of all students and we work alongside whānau to make sure that every Port kid has equal opportunities to thrive.

We are very well resourced and prioritise curriculum resources and the professional development of our staff. Literacy and numeracy are a key focus, which we complement using modern technologies.

We are the host school for the annual West Harbour Arts Charitable Trust Artist in Residence programme and all students from Year 4 to Year 8 learn to play the marimbas. We also make the most of being on the harbour by running a boating programme for our senior students.

I look forward to getting to know you as your child progresses through Port Chalmers School. I am very proud to be the Principal of this very exciting learning community and I welcome the opportunity at any time to discuss with you matters regarding your child’s education and welfare.
